Powering the Beat: Commercial Photography for Flow at Kendal Calling

There’s something special about photographing a live event when the atmosphere is buzzing, the crowd is electric, and the music is in full swing — quite literally in this case.

This summer, I had the pleasure of working with Flow, specialists in providing large-scale electrical generators and power solutions for events, festivals, and live shows. They were tasked with keeping the lights on (and the sound systems pumping) for one of the UK’s most-loved festivals — Kendal Calling.

My brief? Capture Flow’s complete festival setup — from their behind-the-scenes infrastructure to the energy on stage and in the crowd. Over the course of the weekend, I documented everything from the impressive rows of generators and cabling, to Flow’s team hard at work ensuring every performance ran without a hitch.

And of course, I couldn’t resist capturing the magic on stage. Highlights included the ever-glamorous Sophie Ellis-Bextor, delivering her disco-infused set to a sea of smiling faces, and Kaiser Chiefs, who had the crowd singing every word at full volume.
It was the perfect combination of my two favourite worlds — technical, behind-the-scenes photography that tells the story of a brand’s role in an event, and live performance photography that captures the excitement of the moment. It what makes Commercial Photography such a joy.

As a Nottingham-based commercial photographer, I regularly work with businesses like Flow to showcase their work in action. Whether it’s at a festival, conference, or product launch, high-quality images can make a huge difference in showing potential clients exactly what you do, and why you’re the best at it.
If your business needs professional photography to tell your story — whether it’s on a stage, in a field, or behind the scenes — let’s talk.
